My name is Jamal Perry, and I am the founder and executive director of Midwest Meetup (MWM). For over five years, I have dedicated myself to serving Wisconsin’s diverse communities, building bridges and creating spaces of joy, healing, and connection. The Midwest Meetup was born from my passion for uplifting and empowering Black & Brown Queer communities across the Midwest. Our mission provide Black & Brown Queer men with joyful and healing experiences that foster empowerment, strengthen connection, and cultivate a shared sense of belonging across the Midwest
Though our roots are in Milwaukee, our reach has extended to Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, and Illinois, connecting over 100 community members through grassroots efforts and meaningful programs. This fall, we hosted our first mental and physical wellness retreat, bringing together over 15 participants who left feeling empowered, connected, and inspired. Participants have shared that they found our workshops and activities profoundly impactful, and felt more confident discussing important topics that impact their lives, and feel a greater sense of community.
Now, we are ready to take the next step. As the founder and primary administrative leader, I am seeking support to cover the costs and fees associated with creating 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Wisconsin, and the consulting associated with this process. This is an investment for the community, by the community. With your help, Midwest Meetup can continue to grow, reach more people, and provide even more spaces of healing, joy, and empowerment for those who need it most. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal. Thank you for believing in our mission and supporting our journey.
