Help Michael and Libby Stay in Their Forever Home
Donation protected
Hello, Susan Peters, Journalist and former news anchor for Channel 10 KAKE News, but you may know me better for my present work in adopting children through the nonprofit organization, Susan's Kids, where we help find loving and caring “forever homes” for Kansas foster children.
But today I want to talk to you about another “forever home.” It’s the home of Michael and Libby. Michael is a 6-year Vietnam-era Veteran in jeopardy of losing his promised forever home that he and Libby have worked so hard to call their own because the person who gave it to them and assured them they could “stay till the last one remains” is now forced to sell it.
Moving is not an option as years of memories and furnishings cannot easily be replaced for a couple in their golden years.
Fortunately, the VA has preapproved a loan so that Michael can buy the home, not be forced to leave, and truly call this their own “forever home”!
But one main obstacle stands in the way. Because the government is backing the loan under the G.I. Bill, the house must pass rigorous safety and structural standards. Since the owner can’t (or won’t) make the improvements and repairs, Michael will have to do so in order to make the deadline for inspection.
Funds are needed to hire workers, purchase material and make ready the property. Some of the more costly items needed are:
- Roof and Guttering Repair
- Exterior Caulking and Painting
- Electric Panel Replacement
- Old Cracked Picture Window with Crank Outs Replaced
- Porch Steps and Railings
Time is short and funds are even shorter.
We owe our Vietnam- era Veterans… they have gone through so much for our country.
I’m Susan Peters, you know me and I know Michael and Libby, and on their behalf, thank you for your kind consideration and support! And may God bless!
