Hi, I'm David Walker, and I'm inviting you to help transform Alameda Street into a greener, cooler, and safer place for everyone.

The Menlo Foresters, in partnership with the Menlo Park Neighborhood Organization (Association), are raising funds to build stormwater harvesting basins—also known as chicanes—along the new bicycle boulevard through our neighborhood.

These chicanes are shallow landscaped basins built into the curb that capture rainwater and naturally irrigate native trees and plants. Every basin helps slow traffic, reduce pavement temperatures, improve neighborhood beauty, support pollinators and wildlife, and make better use of the rain that already falls in Tucson.

Menlo Foresters, together with neighborhood volunteers and local youth, have already begun planting native shade trees along the bicycle boulevard. Once the chicanes are built, volunteers who live nearby will plant, care for, and maintain them for years to come, ensuring this investment continues to benefit future generations.

Your donation will directly support:

  • Construction of stormwater harvesting basins along the Menlo Park section of the bicycle boulevard.
  • Native trees, shrubs, and pollinator-friendly plants that will thrive on harvested rainwater.
  • Volunteer-led planting days and long-term maintenance to keep these community spaces healthy and beautiful.

Every contribution—large or small—helps create a neighborhood that is safer to bike and walk, cooler during our hot summers, more resilient to drought, and richer in native habitat.

Together, we can turn rainwater into shade, safer streets, and a lasting investment in our community. Thank you for supporting the Menlo Foresters and helping grow a healthier, more beautiful Menlo Park.
