Help Melissa Keep Her Family Afloat
Melissa is single mother of 4, and has unexpectedly been out of work. On Wednesday, May 29, her 13 year old daughter, Summer, ran away from home, and was gone for 7 very long days. For the past 6 years, Melissa has supported her 4 children and herself working at a Casino Restaurant on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but in the throws of crisis, everything changed. While her daughter was missing, she called out twice, devoting everything she had to finding her. She spoke to HR, and to the Restaurant directly, and at the time, Melissa interpreted their understanding of her situation to mean that she wouldn't be penalized, but the day before she was set to return back to work, she was told that she was suspended until further notice, and as of today, June 7, she hasn't been allowed to return, pending evaluation. HR called her again, and ask for her to come in so they could talk more about what was going on, and when she did, they informed her that the Casino operates on a "No Fault" policy, and for that reason, their hands were tied. The penalty for calling out while her daughter was missing will stand. They did tell her that she could bring in additional documents(Doctor's Excuses)that would possibly overturn a couple of previous absences from earlier in the year, which Melissa did right away, but until they go over the documents, and make a final decision, her only option is to wait, without pay. Right now, she's already lost 11 days worth of wages and tips, and as a single Mother of 4, that's a catastrophic loss. Even if she does end up reinstated, the tips that she depends on will still be lost. To a Casino, this situation may just be "policy," and "standard", but this is Melissa's life, and the longer she goes without income, the more she's at risk of losing everything. She doesn't deserve this, and she needs help.
