Help Melanee Adjust Through Tragedy

Hi Everyone! This fundraiser is on behalf of my niece Melanee Miller.

As many of you know, Melanee's mother (my sister) does not have custody of her due to a battle with drug addiction. Melanee was in the care of her Great Aunt, who has now passed away. Her other Great Aunt, who was helping care for her, also passed away two months ago. She has suffered tremendous losses recently, all while seeing her mother battle drug addiction and has now been taken into foster care until she is placed into my care as her Legal Guardian.

Melanee just started High School and is 14 years old. She lives in a small town in Rayne, Louisiana, where resources are limited. She will be leaving everything behind to live with me as her guardian as she cannot bring many of her personal belongings. I am asking for support to help her adjust to her new reality as she navigates through this tragic time.

Many of you who know me well know that I also spent years in foster care as a child, and I will fight to ensure my niece does not have to endure the things I did at a young age. However, I also have 3 small children to care for and need as much support as I can get.

The funds raised will go directly to her well-being. It will get her everything she needs to feel comfortable in her new home, from clothes, shoes, furniture etc. She will need to be enrolled in school and will need all the supplies necessary to jumpstart her education here. These funds will also go towards legal fees that need to be covered to finalize the process as well. It will give her everything she needs to put a smile back on her face and feel comfortable in a new world.
