About me

My name is Yoana, and I am a second-year International Relations student at the University of York. This August, I have the incredible opportunity to travel to the South Pacific and work directly with the Think Pacific team in Fiji! This programme is not just a chance for my personal growth but a meaningful way to make a positive impact in the wonderful communities of Fiji. Alongside students from around the world, we will collaborate with local NGOs and charities to create practical, sustainable solutions for pressing challenges.

Aims of the program

I will be participating in the Global Team Internship (GTI) in Fiji's vibrant capital, Suva, from August 2nd to 29th. This experience will connect me with inspiring partners, allowing me to learn about their grassroots initiatives while supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Fiji National Development Plan. But this journey is about so much more than an internship. I will explore local villages, rural communities, and historic sites, immersing myself in the rich culture and lifestyle of Fiji. I am excited to discover everything there is to know about the Fijian language, food, traditions, and customs.

The challenge

To earn your support and raise funds for this project, I have decided to run 5K for every £5 donated. My hope is that this challenge inspires generosity as you watch me power through and slowly get my butt kicked! I will share updates on the page, showing the progress I’ve made with this challenge.

Where will my funds be going?

The project costs approximately £1,950, covering accommodation, food, and domestic travel in Fiji (buses/airport transfer). Additional expenses such as flights (up to £1,500), registration fees, and visas also factor in. Importantly, 33% of the project fee will be allocated to Think Pacific, supporting their charitable work. Your donations will directly benefit Fijian communities and youth groups by funding building materials, educational resources, sports equipment, sustainability projects and more!
