Hi everyone!
This year, I have the opportunity to travel to Sainji, a small village of around 400 people in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India, as part of a university-led global health and education project.
Sainji is a close-knit farming community where families grow rice, wheat, maize and vegetables on steep terraced hillsides. While the village is rich in culture and resilience, it faces challenges including limited healthcare access, poor sanitation, and an unreliable water supply.
During my time there, I will be working with the local Garhwal English Medium School (GEMS) and the wider community to support a number of initiatives, including:
- Teaching interactive lessons to help children strengthen their learning after the pandemic
- Running health and hygiene sessions, including promoting handwashing to reduce common illnesses
- Providing puberty education for young people aged 9–14 to help them better understand physical and emotional changes
This project is largely self-funded, and I am raising money to help cover travel, accommodation, and essential materials for community workshops and school activities.
Any support (big or small) would mean a lot and would help me contribute to a project that aims to make a meaningful difference in the community.
Thank you so much for your support.
Aishanee
