Hi, I’m Jo, a 46 year old mum to 3 amazing little people. I never imagined I would be in a position where I’d need to ask for help like this, but right now I’m fighting the most important battle of my life — the ability to be a fully present parent in my children’s lives. 

The embarrassment over asking for help is nothing compared to the devastation I will feel if I lose time with my kids because I couldn’t afford to fight for them in court.

All I am asking for is the chance to share my children’s time equally (50% custody) and to continue being the hands-on, loving parent I have always been. Anyone who knows me knows how much my kids mean to me and how involved I’ve always been in their lives.

Unfortunately, securing that basic right requires going through a lengthy and expensive legal process. I’ve already taken on significant debt to cover legal fees so far (over £40k), and we still have at least two more court hearings ahead (over £20k+). By the time everything is resolved, even the equity from our home — once it is eventually divided — is unlikely to cover the debts I’ve had to take on just to keep going.

I truly wish things could have been resolved without court, but right now this is the only path available to ensure I can continue to be there for my children in the way they deserve.

It costs a minimum of £25 just to have one email read, more if a reply is needed. When it is £25 for 6 minutes of work, you can see how quickly debt can increase.

This isn’t about winning or losing. It’s simply about making sure my children have both of their parents actively present in their lives.
