Five wonderful college aged young adults are preparing to spend a week volunteering at Opportunity Camp in the beautiful redwood mountains of Felton, California. These students have a deep love for kids and a passion for sharing hope and encouragement with foster and group home children who often feel overlooked. Their goal is to create a safe, joyful space where these kids can simply be themselves, make new friends, and experience the love and support they deserve.

At camp, the children get to enjoy a variety of activities—playing sports, swimming, participating in talent shows, and joining in on fun night programs. One of the most meaningful parts of the week is the one-on-one time each child spends with their counselor, building trust and forming lifelong friendships. For many of these kids, it’s a rare opportunity to escape daily challenges and just be kids. I have been attending this camp for over 30 years, and it’s always incredible to see the transformation that happens in just one week. Last year, with your help, we brought five amazing young adults who made a lasting impact, and we hope to do it again this year with both returning and new volunteers.

The camp is free for the children, but each volunteer staff member covers their own camp fees, flights, and transportation. Many of these college students are giving up a week of work and are also paying for their college expenses, so the financial burden is significant. Your support will help cover these costs, making it possible for these students to focus on serving and building relationships with the kids, rather than worrying about finances. Watching the children open up, laugh, and even see the ocean for the first time is truly priceless.
