Hi. I’m Joseph Rodriguez. I graduated with a BA in Creative Writing from Cal State Long Beach in the Fall 2024 semester, and I’m incredibly proud to announce that I’ll be attending San Diego State University (SDSU) this coming fall semester to pursue a master’s degree in linguistics, with a specialization in TESOL/Applied Linguistics.
I just signed a lease for a shared bedroom at an off-campus apartment complex called Union Grantville. While I am proud of securing my first apartment, I’ve run into a financial obstacle. I need to pay a security deposit and the first rent payment by August 1st, both $855 each, totaling $1710. Although I am fortunate to receive financial aid from SDSU, it won’t be disbursed to me until mid-August, after the August 1st deadline. Adding to this challenge, I have very limited funds right now. Like many of my fellow college graduates, I was struggling to secure a job earlier this year, causing me to use my savings to put food on the table and pay for essential needs. This created a financial gap I need to close before the big move.
I’m seeking your support to raise $1710 to pay the deposit and the 1st rent payment so that I can start my grad school journey with a roof over my head. Not only would this allow me to fully secure my room, but also to escape the unpleasant living situation I’m in for a healthier space to focus on my studies peacefully.
Your donations, big or small, will help me bridge the gap and set the foundation of my exciting grad school career at SDSU! Thank you so much for reading my story and considering making a contribution!
