Help Me Say Yes to a Rare Family-Friendly Artist Residency

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Jasmine Solei!

I was accepted into a rare, family-friendly artist residency this summer at Kinhouse Art in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I’m raising funds to bring my art practice and my family with me for one dedicated week of creation.

I'm a mixed media artist, queer mom to a 6-year-old boy, and neurodivergent art educator. I teach visual art for K–8, and ever since graduating from art school and stepping fully into my professional career, my personal art practice has slowly fallen by the wayside.

I had to move out of my art studio in January of 2025, and since then I haven’t been making as much art for myself as I want or need to. Right now, I’m in the middle of a body of work on motherhood that includes mixed media paintings, film, poetry, and more. My long-term goal is to have a solo show in Southern California in 2027 with this work.

Being accepted into this residency means I can dedicate an entire week to my art practice and have my family alongside me, which is honestly so rare in the art world. We live in a time where not only are teachers under appreciated, but mothers in the artist community are often overlooked, too. Most artist mothers I know are strong, fierce, and have had to forge their own way. That’s exactly what this Kinhouse artist residency helps others do.

Why I’m Fundraising

The residency costs $600 for the week, with a $250 deposit due to hold my spot. On top of that, I need to cover:
  • Flights for my family from Southern California to Indiana
  • Baggage, local transportation, food gaps
  • Basic art materials for the week
To realistically cover all of that, I’m raising $2,000.

Why This Opportunity Matters to Me

Opportunities like this don’t come around often, especially ones that truly support artists who are also parents. Being able to create while still being present with my child feels really meaningful, and honestly, pretty emotional. I’m excited about the idea of having focused time to make work again without having to choose between my art and my family.

This residency would not only support my personal practice, but also refill my creative cup as an educator. Whatever I learn and experience will come back with me into my classroom and my community.

I would be so honored to be part of this opportunity, but I need approximately $2,000 to get there with my family for the week (to cover the residency, travel, and basic costs). Any bit truly helps. Seriously.

Thank you for being here and for supporting this season of my life.
