I am lucky (!) enough to be running in the 2023 TCS London Marathon on 23rd April and fundraising for Southwark Scouts (charity number: 314261).
I've been involved in Scouts since I was ten years old, learning the ropes in Uxbridge and then volunteering since I moved to Southwark in 2015. With my Group (16th Bermondsey) having nearly run out of funds during COVID, the chance to raise some money back felt like one I couldn't say no to.
Clearly COVID hit Scouting hard. Since re-starting in 2021, groups across the district have done incredible things - with record numbers of members and camping, hiking and adventures across the UK returning in earnest. Money raised in this fundraiser will be shared across groups to ensure all young people have equal access to these adventures and opportunities - one of the big topics I am personally incredibly passionate about. Thank you in advance for your support - here and on the day!!

In the District over 200 dedicated adult volunteers work together to serve over 600 young people aged 6 to 18 years old, providing amazing opportunities, teaching them new skills and increasing their confidence in all activities. We work to make Scouting available to all, and we’re passionate about what we do.
Providing opportunities for learning outdoors skills through camping activities for these young people of central London is also a top priority for the District. The District also owns the fantastic Waylands Campsite to allow the young people to get into nature and learn the camping basics.
Southwark District Scout Council is a registered charity and the money raised from this fundraising will enable Southwark District to provide Scouting activities to members across the borough. This could be equipment or supplies for weekly activities, opportunities to go camping or take part in adventurous activities, or allow more young people to get involved in the more disadvantaged areas of the District.
