Help Me Reunite With My Son After 7 Years Apart

My name is Alberto. I'm a journalist and refugee living in Canada, after being forced to flee Colombia due to threats I received for my work. I came here with part of my family, but my heart broke the day I had to leave my son Pablo behind at just 12 years old.

Since that day, I’ve held onto one hope: to one day bring him here, to safety, to rebuild our lives together in this country I now call home.

Our journey was delayed by many things — including the heartbreaking cancer diagnosis of one of my other sons, which postponed our legal hearing for years. But now, after years of waiting, sacrifice, tears, and paperwork, Pablo has finally received his letter of approval to become a permanent resident of Canada.

We are almost there. But we’re facing one last obstacle: the financial burden of bringing him here and welcoming him with dignity.

This fundraiser will help cover his final legal fees, translations, travel documents, a plane ticket, winter clothes, basic school supplies, transportation within Canada, and a proper bed, so he can arrive and integrate without hardship.

I’ve worked hard to build a life here, like so many immigrants. But I cannot do this last stretch alone. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to finally hugging each other again — without fear, without anxiety, but with freedom, dignity, and hope.

Mi nombre es Alberto. Soy periodista y refugiado viviendo en Canadá, luego de haber tenido que huir de Colombia por amenazas a causa de mi trabajo. Llegué aquí con parte de mi familia, pero con el corazón hecho pedazos tuve que dejar a mi hijo Pablo atrás, cuando él tenía apenas 12 años.

Desde ese día, he vivido aferrado a una sola esperanza: volver a abrazarlo, traerlo a salvo y reconstruir nuestro hogar.

Nuestro proceso fue largo y difícil. Se retrasó, entre otras cosas, porque a uno de mis hijos le diagnosticaron cáncer.

Pero hoy, gracias al apoyo del gobierno canadiense, Pablo ha sido aprobado como residente permanente. ¡Después de años, estamos a un paso de reunirnos!

Este fondo me ayudará a cubrir sus trámites legales finales, traducciones, documentos, tiquete aéreo, ropa de invierno, útiles escolares, transporte dentro de Canadá, y una cama para que llegue con dignidad, sin carencias.
