I am a physically disabled woman of color from New York City whose life was permanently changed after catastrophic medical negligence in 2009.
At the time, I was preparing for medical school to pursue my dream of being a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon. I had severe dust and dust mite allergies that prior allergists had already confirmed through careful testing and bloodwork. Despite repeatedly warning the doctor about my severe known allergies, I was intradermally injected with test substances I was already known to be dangerously allergic to during previous testing at this allergist’s office over two days, including just the day before. This allergist was milking my insurance with excessive and contraindicated tests committing egregious insurance fraud, billing that he had done the tests when in actuality, it was the PA doing the testing, unsupervised and billing for procedures simultaneously as he was at another office location.
Within minutes, I went into anaphylactic shock, which then continued due to the intradermal injections and it became protracted anaphylactic shock. The unsupervised PA failed to call 911 for 45 minutes, leaving me slumped over in the allergy testing chair. During those 45 minutes, the PA re-wrote my medical records and tried to cover up what she had done instead of tending to me and my dire condition. I was able to obtain the original and also the re-written records. The PA also called the emergency room and intentionally misled the emergency room doctor as to what actually occurred, leading the emergency room to discharge me with no proper examination nor treatment or hospitalization for the protracted anaphylactic shock which required telemetry and critical care.
What happened afterward devastated my life. Immediately after, I developed permanent neurological injuries including stroke-related brain injury, chronic neuropathic pain, right-sided weakness, seizures, autonomic dysfunction, visual dysfunction, cognitive impairment, gait problems, and severe mobility limitations. I now rely on mobility aids including braces, a walker, a forearm crutch, and sometimes a wheelchair.
I lost the future I had worked so hard for. I could no longer pursue my dream of becoming a surgeon, engaging in sports, as well as playing musical instruments, singing, and even fully continuing attending the dance classes I once loved. Everyday tasks became difficult. My entire life changed physically, emotionally, socially, and financially.
The years that followed became even more traumatic. I am worried about my future, as my condition will deteriorate and get worse with age.
While I was already struggling with catastrophic disabilities and chronic pain, my father also became the victim of devastating medical negligence and prolonged suffering due to malicious interference and interloping by an evil demonic relative. I became one of his primary caregivers and advocates while simultaneously trying to survive my own medical condition. We dealt with multiple complex legal battles while trying to fight for accountability and proper care.
During that process, an attorney whom we trusted to represent both my father and me allegedly betrayed and abandoned our cases after outside interference from the same evil relative and her in-laws. Cases that had once been progressing aggressively suddenly collapsed, leaving us without legal representation during critical stages of litigation.
The case involving my father was about to go to trial, and my father would have gotten relief and help while he was alive had there not been the interference with our lawyer. We then spent years desperately searching for attorneys willing to help us continue the fight.
Please note that statistically, when someone is hurt by medical malpractice, it is common that they require help from many specialists, therefore, the probability of another medical malpractice increases and that is why my father has more than one medical practice case.
Our attorney abandoned the case 5 months after the interference and my father died 5 months afterwards. I am still searching for the right lawyers. This is one of the reasons why I am setting up this fund for my father’s 3 ongoing cases. Watching my father suffer while trying to navigate overwhelming medical and legal chaos was emotionally devastating.
As if this was not enough, I have also endured ongoing personal safety trauma after a man, who is an in-law of the evil estranged relative (a stranger to me), forcibly entered my home, assaulted me, and sexually assaulted me. Despite repeatedly seeking help from the NYPD and attempting to report subsequent incidents and aggravated harassment, I have spent years struggling to be heard and protected while living as a physically disabled woman of color.
For more than 20 years of legal battles and abuse by that evil older relative, I have fought to survive physically, emotionally, and financially.
The financial burden of medical care, disability-related needs, transportation, legal expenses, and daily living costs has become overwhelming. I am humbly asking for help as I continue trying to rebuild my life, protect my safety, and pursue justice for both myself and my father.
