This year I would love your help to raise money for an amazing charity called “Interplay” Specifically the Crug Glas Summer scheme.

Interplay provides access to play, leisure and social opportunities for children and young people with additional needs aged 4-25 who find it difficult to access the same mainstream play, leisure and social activities as their peers.

If you have read the above then you will already understand why I want help to raise as much money as I can for this amazing charity, however, I just wanted to explain from a personal perspective of what the charity means to me and why it’s so important to so many other SEN parents like myself.

The 6 weeks summer holiday has always been anxiety provoking for us as a family-as it is for most. When you have a child with additional needs, however, this comes with a few more hurdles to overcome.

Finding a suitable leisure club for Clara to go to was proving to be impossible. The lack of inclusivity everywhere I would call was seemingly apparent. There was no option of 121 support in most clubs or if there was it would be a case of them explaining I’d have to pay twice as much for the additional members of staff being there just for Clara. We would end up committing to pay so she would have the same opportunity as her sister but in the end it would come down to the fact that the staff members don’t have the appropriate training/experience to be able to support Clara’s needs.

Back in February 2021 I had a message of a wonderful person called Jess who is one of the Specialist teachers that help to run the Crug Glas play scheme. When jess told me about interplay, I couldn’t believe it, it all sounded too good to be true!

After 5 summers of both my girls going to interplay I can confirm it’s the most well organised, inclusive, safe and amazing environment for our incredible kids to thrive in. I will always be grateful to Sarah, Jess and the rest of the team for their continued dedication and hard work every summer.

As always I’m super grateful for the generosity, positivity and support I receive every year when I set these challenges. I will be running 2 miles everyday through out November along with my friend Jade who has recently become aware of the incredible work interplay do and who is just as passionate about this fund raiser as I am. I would love it if you would all help me raise as much as I can and help give back to another charity that give so much to our community.
