Help Bring Braille to Life for the Deafblind Community

I’m fundraising for a Braille display, an essential tool that will transform not just my life, but also my sister’s and the wider Deafblind community we support through BRIGHT.

A Braille display converts on-screen text into Braille in real time. For Deafblind people like us who are profoundly Deaf and use British Sign Language (BSL), this is often the only truly independent way to read and interact with digital information. It’s about access, connection, and dignity.

Why this matters:

I’m losing more of my vision and want to stay independent at work, without relying on sight-based tools.

My sister’s vision is worse than mine. She’s had almost no support or education. I want to teach her Braille and help her regain confidence and independence.

As Director of the BRIGHT Deafblind Community, I support others who, like us, are profoundly Deaf and often excluded from both sighted and hearing spaces. Many of us grew up with little or no formal education, so accessible tools can be truly life-changing.

This isn’t just for me, - it’s for us.

With your help, I can:

  • Stay productive and employed, even as my vision declines.
  • Teach my sister Braille, so she can communicate, learn, and regain her independence.
  • Use the display in BRIGHT sessions to train, demonstrate, and inspire other Deafblind people – showing what’s possible with the right tools.

BRAILLIANT Braille displays are expensive, often £2,000 or more but with your support, I can turn this into a tool for empowerment, education and inclusion for myself, my sister and wider community.

Your support isn’t just buying a piece of technology. You’re investing in accessibility, education, and community leadership. You’re helping Deafblind BSL users, people who’ve long been left behind, build skills, confidence, and hope.

Together, we can show what’s possible when Deafblind people have equal access to the digital world.

Thank you for believing in accessibility, independence, and the power of community.
