Hi! My name is Arpi Simonyan, and I’m a teenager diabetic from Armenia, who is worried about safety of diabetics in my country. I am launching a project to design medical ID accessories — bracelets, pins and sticker — to give those away to diabetics under 18 years old (for now).

For people with diabetes, emergencies can happen at any time. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can cause confusion, fainting, or seizures. High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) can lead to life-threatening conditions. But in those moments, strangers and even medical personnel might not recognize the symptoms.

That’s where simple yet powerful accessories come in. A visible bracelet, pin, or sticker can alert first responders, teachers, or bystanders that the person is diabetic — helping them get the right care fast.

What I’m Creating & How It Works

I am designing a collection of free accessories for diabetics to wear every day:

•Medical Alert Bracelets – Clearly marked with “Type 1 Diabetic” or “Type 2 Diabetic” for easy identification.

•Awareness Pins & Stickers – Fun, visible, and designed to spark conversations about diabetes.

•Emergency QR Code – A scannable code linking to emergency contacts or medical instructions.

These aren’t just accessories. They can save lives.

Why This Project Matters

As a diabetic, I know how scary it can be to feel vulnerable in public. Many diabetics have been in situations where their low blood sugar is mistaken for intoxication, or they are unable to communicate their medical needs in an emergency.

This issue is even more pressing in places like Armenia, where diabetes awareness is still low and count as something embarrassing. Many teachers, caregivers, and first responders aren’t trained to recognize diabetic symptoms, which can lead to dangerous delays in getting help.

By making these free and widely available, I hope to give diabetics an extra layer of safety and increase public awareness about diabetes.
