Two weeks ago, I was served with eviction papers for an apartment I’ve been responsibly paying for. Because I share a lease, I’m legally tied to my roommates’ unpaid rent — even though I’ve consistently paid my portion. Over the past few months, their missed payments have added up, and now we're all facing eviction. That means that despite doing everything right on my end, I'm at risk of losing my home. Right now, I’m still paying my rent and doing what I can to help resolve the situation, including supporting applications for rental assistance programs. But the total owed is more than I can realistically cover on my own. I’m hoping to raise enough to cover the outstanding balance plus additional rent that will be owed soon, and resolve the eviction case. This would allow me to move forward — to secure stable housing on my own, and to create a safe, steady home for myself and my cats, Atlas and Ambrose. It would also prevent me from being trapped paying for two apartments at once just to escape this situation. This has been one of the most difficult and uncertain periods of my life. I’ve tried to handle it quietly and responsibly, without leaning on anyone but I’ve reached a point where I can’t do it alone.
