Our Story
For over six years, my step-daughter, Londyn, and I have shared a home, a life, and a deep bond. Her dad and I are now legally married, but in my heart, I have been her mom since June 2019, when she and her dad came to live with me permanently. We’ve celebrated birthdays, cheered each other on, and navigated life’s challenges together, fully intertwined in each other's lives.
I want to make it legally official what we’ve always felt in our hearts — that we are family.
I have been her mother, loving her and caring for her for over half her lifetime. Her biological mother had her rights terminated by the state of Iowa in the same year Londyn and I came to live together as a family. I have been providing for Londyn as her only mother since she came to live with me.
Why Adoption Matters to Us
Growing up, my mother signed away her parental rights, and my step-mother never adopted me. Although my parents brought up adoption and I consented, they never went through with the adoption. My only legal parent was my father.
That left an impression in my heart as my step-mother and I do not even consider each other family even though I lived with her for 14 years of my childhood. Even my siblings love me as their sister, and I am considered 100% family by my father's side of the family. I know firsthand the emotional power and deep symbolism of adoption — it’s not just a legal process, it’s a declaration of belonging. The same way that I know I am a part of the Hoyt family, I want Londyn to know, without a doubt, that she is my child in every way and for the rest of my life. She is family not just because I am her mother, but her aunts and uncles and family on the Hoyt side are also her family. Legal adoption has a profound impact on a person's life.
Why We Need Your Help
The only thing standing between us and this milestone is the cost of adoption attorney fees. We tried to petition for the adoption on our own, only to show up to court with the judge directing us to hire an adoption attorney. I asked what I may provide that the court needed, and was told that would be considered giving legal advice and not permitted in the State of Iowa. That I must hire an adoption attorney to proceed.
We have chosen an amazing, loving attorney whom we know and trust deeply. We feel so good about having him guide us through this process, ensuring every step is handled with care, compassion, and the legal protection Londyn deserves. Unfortunately, we simply do not have the funds right now to cover these expenses.
What Your Support Will Do
Every contribution will go toward the attorney fees that will make our adoption official. Your love and generosity will help give my daughter, Londyn, the legal security and emotional affirmation she deserves. Londyn deserves all the love and affirmation in the world. If you've ever met her, you would know. She's been through so much so early on in this life, and her beautiful soul brings so much love into this world. I would like the world to reflect that back to her through our love and support.
