Help Me Keep Dreams Alive & Thriving
I have been debating whether or not to set up this GoFundMe but once again my dynamic friend Rebecca gave me that extra push of support & encouragement.
Those of you who know me well, know that my journey is more of a caravan than a solo trek. I have come very far from my origin, but each step I have taken in my becoming has led me steadfastly home to my origin and my people.
MY PEOPLE include you, and you... and the artisans, and the craftspeople, and the village, and the friends, and the tuktuk driver, and the school, and the teachers, and the fine people who I do business with in lands I am just beginnning to explore, and the team that ships my beautiful goods from the homeland to me on my journeys to share with you.
and the children, my children of ANIDAN in Lamu , so many wonderful PEOPLE.
The world may have taken a pause. And that may look like a breather for some of us, but there are many more that are barely hanging on by a thread. They are struggling to feed their families, pay the landowner to remain in their domicile, continue to power electricity to their school, get feed for their animals (that feed their families), keep their vehicle on the road in hopes of having a delivery business to return to.
It’s been hard for millions around the world but I can do a little something for the ones that I can directly impact so I try to do the best by them. The last few months have been miraculous in many ways. I’m blessed and lucky to have gotten ‘stuck’ on the very enchanting Lamu island off the coast of Kenya. Despite losing 90% of my income generating work (festival & pop-up vending) I have truly lacked for nothing . I have been showered with so much support so thank you all so so much. Even better, I have also been able share my resources whenever I can and let me tell you what, it has been food for the soul.
I’ve been able to feed over 100 families in Maasai Mara an area that needs help NOW, send small life saving donations to dozens of friends & family in Kenya, fill my dozens of kids in Lamu with absolute cheer after a special goat dinner, made small orders with my producers so they could keep having an income, bought 100 ice-creams to treat the island kids for Eid, help a friend in Nairobi make sure he got to his job interview across town, given an awesome cleaning lady $5 which in turn got me a most beautiful woven basket as a gift.
I don’t list these things for a pat on the back but as a testament of how even a little can go so far. It makes people feel seen, remembered, supported and loved.
I was talking to a friend the other day and I said “my current quarantine job is to bring joy to people” and let me tell you what, I have been taking my job very seriously. It has truly been one of the best times of my life.
I have made good use of my time, my dreams, my plans, they are coming together.
I am collaborating, and aligning and I will be bringing my vision to you on a larger scale very soon.
But, right now, we have to trickle down that which has stopped trickling down.
I am calling on you, my friends, to assist me in being Dream Keepers. I have balled up wet paper to stop the leaks, I have shared resources, I have listened, and planned, and kept my heart open. The prayer now is to be able to bring exponentially more joy into these lives with your help.
I have organized this GOFUNDME independently of my personal work so that we may together collectively send our support to these lovely people that bring us so much BEAUTY and AUTHENTICITY and CREATIVITY. You have seen the wares, the jewelry, the clothes, the music, the photos, heard the stories. You can’t imagine the network of people that make my offerings, booths, and pop ups possible; and also who make all my travel experiences nothing short of legendary.
$1 may pay someone’s goat feed for a week, the goat that they use for everything. $5 could be used to buy ice cream for some kiddos who’ve never tasted it, $10 couple help an out of work waiter buy groceries for the week, $25 could help buy art supplies to keep our teenagers engaged and creative, $50 may pay rent for an entire family, $75 could keep 4 families of 5 in the Mara stocked with necessities for a week. $100 could feed my dear children at the orphanage for days.
Let’s show some global LOVE to our fellow humans. Let’s balance the scales ever so lightly as we all pause to consider where we fit in and where we can refocus our action.
Your love and generosity is SO appreciated by me and the hundreds that will be touched by it.
Thank You!
THIS IS NOW. THIS IS ME. THIS IS YOU. THIS IS US.
