Support my canvassing for Bernie Sanders
The 2020 Democratic Primary will go down in history for having the most talented field of candidates ever. I got involved early, traveling to events, listening to and talking to candidates, weighing their ideas carefully. I was excited to have so many choices before me.
Then one day, I woke up and realized that there was only one candidate who spoke deeply to everything that I believe in, and who also speaks to those who have been ignored and disenfranchised from our political system. I woke up wanting to do more.
I started canvassing for Bernie Sanders, and it was as though a stone had been lifted from my heart. Every conversation helped me to understand that everyone is at a different stage in their political awareness and that the job of a campaign is to educate - the word whose roots literally mean "to lead out".
Two other volunteers and I figured out that there were voters that we were not reaching through conventional campaign methods. We developed a system of deep canvassing that allowed us to unearth hidden voters: people who had never voted, people who voted for Obama and then gave up, people who wanted to vote but didn't know how.
Often these people are the very people who will most benefit from Bernie Sanders' humanistic policies of a living wage, health care for all, child care for all, rent control, and a green new deal. I have lost count of how many people I have convinced to vote this time, for Bernie Sanders, because this is important, the most important election of our lifetime.
As I went deeper into canvassing, trying to draw people out and change their minds and inspire them, I found that I was the one who was being changed. My resolve is deeper and stronger, and I want to keep on talking to people.
We have a unique moment in the history of this country to really change our society and our world for the better.
I spent 3 1/2 weeks canvassing in New Hampshire, basically putting my life and my work on hold. I have already canvassed in Worcester Massachusetts and intend to continue full time in Massachusetts until Super Tuesday, and beyond in other states, if I can. I need your help to support me in this work, as I am taking a huge financial hit to do this. Thank you so much.
