Friends and family,

As I hope you have heard, the destruction from Hurricane Helene is of such catastrophic proportions that the town I have lived, worked, and grown in has been completely destroyed. The news does not even begin to touch the amount of devastation, deaths, loss of pets, personal belongings, debris, and probably the most impactful; emotional and financial struggles we all are facing from this area. This event is bigger than the likes of Hurricane Katrina and is being called one of the biggest and most expensive climate-caused disasters in the USA in history.

With that said, me, my 2yo, my family, and neighbors are all physically safe. Our home is undamaged, but the roads, power lines, and our surrounding area is literally in pieces. We don’t expect electricity to us for weeks, we’re low on food, water, and gas. It’s honestly difficult to relay the reality I’m living in as I’ve driven a half mile just to have service to write all of this…it’s a post-apocalyptic Hollywood movie set in real time.

Many have asked how they can help and it’s taken me a moment to really consider. What I am asking is for help in paying my truck off. As many know, I have lost all incoming revenue. My place of work, my furniture booths, and other sources have been completely decimated. I’ve managed to get some work an hour away, but it’s very minimal gig work and doesn’t pay nearly as well as I’ve managed to pay myself the last several years. I have many skill sets and will regain footing before too long, but truck payments are the last thing I’d like to worry about.

Not only will my truck be helping me stay afloat financially, it will help me eventually transport my baby to pre-k to continue some “normalcy”; more importantly, it will be used to help our friends salvage what they can from their destroyed homes, transport clean drinking water, food supplies, or offer a friendly face to my community so desperately in need right now.

This is not an easy ask for me. I have always been self-sufficient. I am so serious when I say that Western NC is in the most dire need of help and by friends and family helping me, you are indirectly helping all of them.

By no means do I expect any or all of you to contribute. Regardless, keep us in your thoughts. We have a long road ahead of us, but we will persevere.
