I’m reaching out because I need some help getting through a difficult financial transition.

I recently had to give my 30-day notice at my current apartment (fortunately my lease was ending) because I can no longer afford the rent and was up for renewal. Thankfully, I was approved for another apartment that is significantly more affordable, in a safe place, more accessible, and would put me in a much more stable/sustainable financial position.

The challenge is getting there.

I’m trying to raise approximately $4,000 to cover upfront costs like the security deposit, first month’s rent at the new apartment, prorated rent at my current apartment, and the other costs associated with moving into the new place.

And I have a deadline: I need to have the deposit and rent for the new apartment, along with the prorated rent at my current apartment, paid by September 3rd.

$4,000 is a lot of money for me right now. But this move would give me something I really need right now: a more affordable home and some breathing room while I continue working to get back on my feet.

Here’s how I got here.

Unfortunately, my work contract was terminated in April, and since then, my full-time job has essentially been finding another job. I’ve applied for over 400 positions through LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and company websites. I’ve dropped off countless résumés at local businesses, reached out directly to employers and recruiters, connected with a temp agency, and done everything I can to get my foot in the door.

Through all of that, I’ve had two interviews.

Unfortunately, I had to turn one of those opportunities down because the position required more physical work than my body is capable of doing.

That’s one of the difficult realities of my situation. I’m a quadriplegic. I am absolutely capable of working, and I want nothing more than to work and support myself and my son, but there are physical limitations I simply cannot overcome. I need to find work that I can physically perform, which means I need to work remotely and primarily on a computer. And as anyone who has searched for remote work knows, that market is incredibly competitive.

But I haven’t given up.

I’m a part-time single dad, and one of my biggest motivations is being able to provide my son with the stability and life he deserves. I want to work. I want to support myself. I want to provide for my son and give him the best life I possibly can.

I’m not asking for help because I’ve given up. I’m asking because I’m trying to keep going.

Right now, I’m asking for help getting through this transition and into a home I can actually afford.

I am currently receiving disability benefits; I’m grateful for that and it helps a lot, but the amount is nowhere near what could be considered a “livable” amount.
