My name is Jeremy. I’m an Australian wildlife filmmaker, and for the past five years I’ve been documenting one of the most extraordinary animals on Earth - the superb lyrebird.

Those videos have reached hundreds of millions of people but I’ve always felt like they only tell part of the story.

This year, I’m creating my first feature-length film to finally capture the whole story.

And just quietly… I think I might have the concept for the best lyrebird film ever made

THE CONCEPT:

For 50 days, I’ll immerse myself in the forest, to document the secret lives of lyrebirds.

With the use of remote cameras, I’ll capture their natural behaviours, without the human disturbance that often comes with filming wildlife.

As we witness the lyrebirds’ extraordinary courtship displays, the film will widen its lens to explore the fragile ecosystem that they shape and depend on.

Along the way, it will confront the growing pressures in the forest - introduced species like foxes, cats and deer, and the complex impact of human presence.

A UNIQUE SETUP:

Whilst other films have used trail cameras to record lyrebirds' intimate courtship displays, I believe that these devices fall short when it comes to capturing all of the intricacies of a lyrebird's performance, especially when it comes to the sound.

I've devised a strategy that will use cinema cameras and studio microphones to capture the lyrebird in the most immersive way possible - as if you were really there.

Each morning, before the sun rises, I'll deploy cameras at multiple lyrebird mounds and leave them recording throughout the day.
