Help Me Fight for Custody of My Granddaughter, Divine

My name is Sara y Juan Garcia,

and I am reaching out with a heavy but hopeful heart. I am raising funds to hire an attorney to help me gain legal custody of my granddaughter, Divine—a sweet, resilient little girl who has already endured more pain than any child ever should.

Divine came to live with me last year under heartbreaking circumstances. Her father is currently in jail, accused of killing her younger sister. Her mother—my daughter—has a severe disability, worsened by years of abuse, that now leaves her unable to care for herself, let alone her daughter. She can no longer walk, hear, or provide basic care. It breaks my heart to see the toll that this violence and neglect have taken on both of them.

When Divine first arrived, she was malnourished, angry, and deeply traumatized. It was painfully clear she had been neglected and likely abused. We’ve worked hard every day since to give her stability, safety, and above all—love. Slowly but surely, she’s begun to smile again, to trust, and to heal.

Unfortunately, the fight isn’t over.

Her paternal grandparents—whose home is closely connected to the traumatic environment Divine came from—are now seeking custody of my daughter, and we fear they will attempt to do the same with Divine. We cannot let her return to that home. It is not safe, and it is not where she will thrive.

Despite everything that’s happened, DCF has not yet removed custody rights from her parents, and this legal limbo puts Divine at serious risk of being returned to an unsafe environment. I want nothing more than to protect her future, to give her a safe, stable home where she can continue to heal and grow.

But I can’t do it alone.

Legal representation is expensive, and time is not on our side. I am humbly asking for your help to raise funds to hire an experienced family law attorney who can help us navigate this legal battle and ensure that Divine stays safe and protected.
