Help Me Share My Mother's Story: Support "Once She Told Me"

Hello everyone,

I invite you to join me on a personal and emotional journey that tells the story of my mother and her sister, who survived the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Dachau. This story is brought to life through the dance and music performance I created, "Once She Told Me...".

The performance is based on a rare recording of my mother's voice, which I recorded in the small kitchen of my parents' apartment in Kibbutz Afikim, where I was born. Alongside my mother's story, original music specially composed for this performance is heard on stage, while two dancers express the story in a moving way through their movements. **These two dancers led the performances in Israel and will be performing here in the Netherlands as well.** The performance is also accompanied by a violinist and a singer, adding depth and emotion to every moment and retelling my mother's memories as she shared them with me.

After a number of successful performances in Israel, about 20 more performances were scheduled for January and April 2024 for students and the community in Israel, but unfortunately, they were canceled due to the war. Meanwhile, I moved with my wife, Marjolein, who was born and raised in the Netherlands and accepted a position as a teacher at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, to live in Amsterdam. Now, I want to bring this special performance to the stage here in the Netherlands.

The upcoming performances are scheduled for January 26, 2025, at the Amsterdam Theaterhuis in Amsterdam (at 16:30 and 20:15), and on January 27, 2025, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, at the Korzo Theater Den Haag in The Hague at 20:30.

Ik nodig jullie uit om met mij mee te gaan op een persoonlijke en ontroerende reis die het verhaal vertelt van mijn moeder en haar zus, die de concentratiekampen Auschwitz en Dachau hebben overleefd. Dit verhaal wordt verteld door middel van de dans- en muziekvoorstelling die ik heb gecreëerd, "Ooit vertelde ze me...".

De voorstelling is gebaseerd op een unieke opname van de stem van mijn moeder, die ik opnam in de kleine keuken van het appartement van mijn ouders op Kibboets Afikim, waar ik geboren ben. Naast het verhaal van mijn moeder wordt op het podium originele muziek gespeeld, speciaal gecomponeerd voor deze voorstelling, terwijl twee danseressen het verhaal op ontroerende wijze uitdrukken in hun bewegingen. **Deze twee danseressen hebben ook de optredens in Israël geleid en zullen voor de voorstellingen hier in Nederland aanwezig zijn.** De voorstelling wordt ook begeleid door een violist en een zanger, die diepte en emotie toevoegen aan elk moment en de herinneringen van mijn moeder opnieuw vertellen zoals zij ze mij vertelde.

Na een aantal succesvolle optredens in Israël, waren er nog zo'n 20 optredens gepland in januari en april 2024 voor studenten en de gemeenschap, maar helaas werden deze geannuleerd vanwege de oorlog. Ondertussen ben ik samen met mijn vrouw Marjolein, die geboren en getogen is in Nederland en aangenomen werd als docente aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, naar Amsterdam verhuisd. Nu wil ik deze bijzondere voorstelling hier in Nederland op de planken brengen.

De komende voorstellingen zijn gepland op 26 januari 2025 in het Amsterdam Theaterhuis in Amsterdam (om 16:30 en 20:15 uur), en op 27 januari 2025 op Internationale Holocaustherdenkingsdag in het Korzo Theater Den Haag in Den Haag om 20:30 uur.
