Hi, my name is Trinity Ibrena, and I’m asking for your support in a deeply personal chapter of my journey.

Over the past few years, I’ve been battling a rare and life-altering condition—a mitochondrial disorder that impacts everything from my energy levels to my mobility, nervous system, and daily functioning. There is no cure, and treatment is expensive, exhausting, and often experimental.

Despite my body’s cries for rest, I’ve continued working in education because I simply couldn’t afford not to. I’ve spent 10+ years serving students and communities across Texas. But now, the reality is this: my health no longer allows me to keep pushing at the expense of my wellbeing.

Why I’m Raising $7,000

To qualify for early disability retirement through the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS/TEA), I need to buy back several years of service credit that I previously withdrew.

Years ago, in the midst of a financial emergency, I had no choice but to pull from my retirement savings. At the time, survival was the only option. But now, those “years of service” are required in order for me to be eligible for early disability retirement—and the buyback cost is $7,000.

This is not just a number.

It’s the difference between barely surviving and being able to prioritize my healing.

It’s what will allow me to:

• Stop working before I physically collapse

• Continue seeing my team of specialists

• Pay rent and monthly bills without falling further into medical debt

• Make space for rest, rehabilitation, and recovery

The Honest Truth

I’ve pushed past the limits of what my body can handle.

I’ve worked while dizzy, weak, and in pain—because not working would mean eviction or falling behind.

I’ve said yes to every doctor visit and hospital referral, but said no to actually slowing down, because I didn’t have the option to stop and still survive.

I’m now choosing to honor my body. But I need help to make that possible.
