Support the family of LaKeith Smith

My son, LaKeith Smith was 15 years old when Alabama police shot and killed Lakeith’s best friend A’Donte Washington. LaKeith was charged for A’Donte’s death even though Lakeith did NOT hurt or kill anyone, and there is no argument by anyone, including the state of Alabama, the officers are the one who shot A’donte in the back while he was running away, killing him. However, rather than charging the officers responsible with the death, they used the felony murder law, which should not apply in this case, to charge my son LaKeith.

LaKeith was originally incarcerated in 2015, at age 15, and has been there ever since, in the HIGHEST LEVEL maximum security prison in Alabama. He has been a model prisoner, no violence or issues, he's working toward getting a GED and other certifications. I have been there every step of the way, every day, the entire time. I have sacrificed EVERYTHING to bring my baby home. I have missed work for court appearances, rallies, and community engagements, the financial toll on me has been significant. This GoFundMe will help me get through times.

Myself with the help of others are organizing this GoFundMe to allow the community an opportunity to be the hands on as I/we begin the hardest part of this fight. Recently, the same corrupt, racist judge that originally sentenced Lakeith to 65 years resentenced LaKeith because his civil rights were violated at his original hearing.

The state of Alabama, and the entire justice system, has failed LaKeith TWICE now. To quote LaKeith’s attorney, “now the gloves come off”. The aim is to challenge the actual verdict and move to have LaKeith’s conviction overturned this time around. For this to be possible I will need to dedicate myself full time to the fight to free my son LaKeith.
