Help me be A Voice For Good in the community

Hi. My name is Randy Ehle, and I’d love to have your help to be A Voice For Good in the community. I’m trying to raise $1,000 to purchase a portable sound system to use for announcing school sports, as well as community and non-profit events.
In 2016, my daughter’s high school volleyball team was planning their annual Block Out Cancer night and looking for an MC for the event. I offered to help, and that launched my “career” as a volunteer in-game announcer for the team. I’ve been announcing ever since.
Over the past few years I've become the regular announcer for Sonora High School’s girls volleyball, soccer, and softball teams, have announced a couple track meets, and have filled in for basketball and baseball. In 2022 I was invited to join the announcing team for the Murphys (California) Irish Day and Christmas parades. This month I’ve MC’d a couple events for our local hospital and its cancer center.
Why do I continue, long after my kids have graduated? Three reasons:
- First, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been given a gift–my voice–and some gifts come with responsibility.
- Second, there’s a lot of bad in the world–some kids rarely hear anything but negative; I can be a voice for good.
- Third, I have fun doing this!
Frederick Buechner wrote, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.”
For me, that convergence of my gladness and the world’s hunger comes in being a voice for good, especially for youth.
Now I’m trying to improve how that happens.
As an announcer I’ve often had to rely on borrowed equipment, including a small karaoke speaker straining to reach the stands at the softball diamond! Through the first month of this fundraiser, thanks to a number of generous donors I’ve been able to purchase my own two-speaker portable sound system and a high-quality mic. Reaching the $1,000 goal will allow me to add on several accessories I’ve found necessary for the various venues: a table, mic stands, protective coverings and cases, etc.
The high school principal told me at a recent softball game, “I love the atmosphere this has created. It’s turned this from an out-of-the-way game into an energy-filled event. It’s really good for the girls.”
That’s why I’m doing this: to be a voice for good for our kids and the community. Having my own system will allow me to continue to do that, and to expand to some of the other organizations I’ve served in other ways.
NOTE: This is all volunteer; I receive nothing more than an occasional team shirt or hat and maybe a gift card for a local restaurant. Nothing in that will change.
Thank you for your contribution to the cause. Would you share this GoFundMe with your friends?
