Hi everyone, I'm Jasmine Wynona (J. Wynona), a writer and filmmaker from NYC, and I'm thrilled to share an incredible opportunity that's just opened up for me. I've been invited to attend FreeFrom's Survivor Wealth Summit in Los Angeles in August 2025!

I was truly honored to be invited to this important event, which validates the importance of my voice and experiences.

Over four days, I, along with hundreds of other participants, will have the opportunity for:

Panels, workshops, breakout sessions, and cutting-edge financial education.

This summit's core mission – that “ending gender-based violence is possible when we sustain each other” – isn't just a tagline for me; it's the very throughline of my own work. As some of you know through my writing and upcoming filmmaking projects, I explore themes like kink as a form of Black liberation, radical self-reclamation, and financial empowerment as tools for healing and resilience. Attending this summit is a direct investment in sharpening those tools, finding new resources, and deepening my capacity to empower both myself and others within these critical conversations.

While this scholarship is an incredible gift, it doesn't cover the essential costs of getting to and staying in Los Angeles. My flight is already booked, costing $448. The hotel for the entire summit week would be $1800. So, my total fundraising goal is $2,500. This amount would fully cover both the flight and hotel, providing a small but crucial buffer for other trip necessities. It means I can focus entirely on learning valuable lessons and making vital connections, rather than stressing about expenses.

It feels incredibly vulnerable to ask for help for what might seem like “just” an opportunity rather than an immediate crisis, and I understand the irony of attending a wealth summit without having all of the means to go. But I was reminded by incredible people that mutual aid is about collective support for growth and shared empowerment. This isn't just an investment in my development; it's an investment in the resources, insights, and advocacy I can bring back to our community and the important conversations we share.
