Mayra is a devoted mother of two boys, Marlon (11) and Jafet (12). She came to the United States from Honduras determined to build an honest life for her family. She worked tirelessly — the kind of person who shows up early, stays late, and treats every job with pride and gratitude. If you’ve ever met a truly hardworking human being, Mayra is that person.
This summer, she did everything by the book. She received her Social Security number in July and her work permit in August. She was fully compliant with every requirement asked of her.
Despite of this on October 22nd, during a routine, scheduled immigration check-in — something she has always done responsibly — Mayra was unexpectedly detained. Since that day, she has not been able to return home or work.
Her two boys are now in the care of their grandmother. While they are safe, they are missing the warmth, presence, and support of their mother during one of the most difficult moments of their lives. And with winter arriving, their needs are only growing: food, warm clothing, school necessities, and the simple dignity of holiday gifts no child should be without.
On top of this, Mayra is facing significant legal costs as she fights to return to her children and continue working, which is something she has always done with honor and gratitude.
I’m starting this GoFundMe because I know Mayra personally. She was part of the hardworking crew that helped repair parts of my home, and she carried herself with honesty, joy, and a genuine spirit that is rare to come by. I am deeply grateful for her, and with everything happening in our country, standing by her feels like the right — and human — thing to do.
This fundraiser will help:
Support Marlon and Jafet’s basic needs through winter
Provide food, clothing, and school items
Ensure they won’t go without during the holidays
Help pay Mayra’s mounting attorney fees while she cannot work
Show her children that their mother is not alone
Any amount helps. And just as important as the total raised is the number of people willing to say, “We see you, and we care.”
If you can relate to the story of a mother separated from her children, unable to provide for them despite doing everything right, I ask you to please chip in. Your support — in any form — makes a real difference.
Thank you for your compassion, your generosity, and your willingness to help a good person in a very difficult moment.
