Help Matt Wenda Enjoy His Well-Earned Retirement

My name is Jared Stump. I'm a Yardley Borough resident, local business owner, and P.O. Box holder at the Yardley Post Office. I also was one of the three organizers of the GoFundMe last Summer for Maplevale residents after the big flood.

If you've been to the Yardley Post Office (or the Morrisville Post Office for passport services), you probably know Matt Wenda. Though Matt has only been with us in Yardley since 2022, his entire 36-year career has been with the USPS, and he's made a deep impact in our little Borough in a short time. As one resident put it, interacting with Matt is "always a pleasure" — which is a bit unusual to hear someone say about a trip to the post office. Matt is truly a gem.

Matt always goes the extra mile to serve our community. When my P.O. box lock broke off in my hand one day, he stayed after closing to personally fix it the *same day* so my mail would be secure, and then he called me to let me know it was done.

When Matt told me last month he was retiring (his last day is Friday, September 20th), he mentioned he needs to focus on his health and there's a lot he wants to do. "I've always worked," he told me. "I've never taken a vacation. The government gives me 5 weeks a year and I don't take it, so they take it away. I've never been to the Carolinas, never been to the Jersey Shore..."

In talking to residents who stopped by the wish Matt farewell this week, I had the idea that it would be wonderful to put together a collection to "tip" Matt for all the years of great service. I plan to use this money to buy him a beach chair and a few other tangible items, and then give the rest to him so he can travel and enjoy himself as a "thank you" for all the years of service he's given to us

If you have a few dollars to spare, I invite you to contribute. Aside from GoFundMe's 3% processing fee, every dollar will go directly to Matt. If you'd prefer to give cash, you can drop off donations between 8:00am-3:00pm at Borough Hall (to the left of the Post Office)

I run the community social media page @yardley_borough on Instagram and am an admin in the "Yardley Borough, PA" Facebook group. We will post updates on both of these pages as we surprise Matt!
