Mark Pennington has survived Hurricane Helene, displacement, and homelessness. Now, he is fighting for his life.
Mark is a resident here at KAB Village in Old Fort, North Carolina. He is in his early 60’s and has no family to care for him. Rodney Cole and Ashley Garrison have become his only support system.
After Hurricane Helene struck in September 2025, Mark lost his housing and was temporarily staying in a loaned camper at Camping World in Marion, NC. When that location closed, he had nowhere left to go and had to return the camper. With no other options, we welcomed him into KAB Village so he would have a safe place to stay.
On March 2, everything changed.
Mark had to call EMS after experiencing symptoms of a stroke. He was transported to Mission Hospital McDowell, where doctors discovered not just one stroke—but multiple strokes. His condition is very serious.
His vital signs upon arrival were extremely dangerous:
Blood Pressure: 264/142
Oxygen Level: 80
Pulse: 86
He has now been admitted to the ICU at Mission Hospital McDowell and is beginning what will be a long and difficult recovery.
Mark has nothing. No savings. No family. No safety net.
He also has a small dog named Daisy, who is his only companion and source of comfort. Daisy now needs care while Mark is hospitalized, and Mark will need support when he returns.
We are asking for help to provide Mark with:
Basic necessities when he is released
Food and groceries
Medical-related needs and recovery support
Care, food, and supplies for his dog Daisy
Daily living support during his recovery
Every dollar will go directly toward helping Mark stabilize and rebuild his life after this devastating medical emergency.
Mark has already endured so much loss. He should not have to face this alone.
Please consider donating, sharing, and keeping Mark in your prayers.
We will post updates as we receive them.
Thank you for helping us care for one of our own.
