Mark, like so many of us, lived his life focused on staying healthy and building a future. He avoided smoking, drinking, and drugs, stayed on top of his responsibilities, and planned to work hard, pay off his debts, and eventually afford the health coverage that he hoped would never be needed.

But life has a way of turning things upside down.

What started as a regular day quickly became a nightmare when Mark was rushed to the hospital on June 9 with a severe colon infection. After two surgeries and still hospitalized, Mark is now facing an uncertain road ahead.

A hardworking man who typically put in 50-hour weeks is now unable to work, and his medical bills are piling up by the day. While Mark remains positive and grateful for the good things in his life, his recovery will be long and challenging. With work restrictions likely on the horizon and no income, the financial strain is only growing.

This is a reality that can happen to anyone. Despite our best efforts to do the next right thing and make forward progress, situations can change in an instant.
