Help Mark Goldsmith continue to defend himself
Donation protected
My dad, Mark Goldsmith (age 63), needs your help. I (Mariah Goldsmith) try my hardest to do what I can for him and my mom, but this time I can't do it on my own.
My dad was arrested for defending himself after a neighbor came onto his property and assaulted him after making multiple threats. The neighbor had run onto his property belligerently, screaming at my dad with a stick in his hand, threatening to harm him a few days before this incident, with a few incidents happening before this also without being provoked. My dad kept repeating for him to go back home. Then on 7/15, not even 30 minutes after I left my parents' home after taking them to get groceries and to Dr. appointments, this neighbor came over screaming at my dad while he was checking on his garden. He shoved my dad and kept screaming. My dad pulled his pistol (which he has a permit to carry and legally bought and registered) warning the neighbor to go back home more than one time, and when the aggressor kept coming, my dad fired his weapon. The man tried to go back home. At this time, my dad went inside, unloaded his gun, and set it on the table while calling 911. The officers on the scene found a gun under my parents' bush in their yard that didn't belong to them. This neighbor came over with ill intent towards someone who, over the last 30+ years, had been nothing but neighborly to him. My dad has loaned him tools, helped him repair many vehicles, and has fed him and his dogs.
The magistrate court set a bond at $10,000, charging my dad with malicious assault. I went through a local bail bondsman and was able to get it to 3% ($3000). Luckily, a family friend offered to help pay, but we still have to pay the remaining $7,000.
My dad is on disability, and I work two jobs to pay my bills and help my parents when I can, but this is going to be hard to cover.
Two years ago, my dad had two heart attacks back to back that landed him in the hospital needing triple bypass surgery. After a lot of ups and downs with his health, his Dr. appointments started resulting in better news this past year. My dad isn't used to not being a full-time mechanic after working almost every day all his life. Their car was recently repossessed after keeping up got harder. I was unable to help save it, but I am helping where I can to make things easier.
I'm not expecting people to believe me that don't know my dad, but the ones that do will understand. I wouldn't be asking for help if I didn't need it.
Mark Goldsmith is the type of guy that stops on the side of the road in the pouring rain to help you fix a flat tire and teach you how to do it for next time. Any kid needing a yard to play in was invited to be at his home. His only rule was to respect his home and the others there. He took in any kid that needed someone just to be there. He was a stand-in dad when someone needed him. So he's not just a dad to me; there are so many others that call him dad also, with many kids that call him Pop (grandpa), and they mean EVERYTHING to him. My dad may have shot this man, but anyone that knows him knows it was because he was protecting his home and family.
I will be installing cameras at his home soon and getting a lawyer to actually help him fight this, so I have my hands full.
Here's the link to what the news has reported so far. More to be said when it goes to court.

If you can help in any way, my whole family would be greatly appreciative.
I was told to add my PayPal account also to give people the option to pay there since there are fees with this page. (Not sure how it all works; I have never made one of these before.)
Thanks again for any help! My dad may not be happy I'm asking for help, but I need help on this one.
