Help Marissa Bring Free Clothing to Teens

Hi! I’m Marissa Gayton and I’m the founder of the gram-MeDownz project in Whittier, Ca. gram-MeDownz’ primary mission is to empower teenz to express themselves through style by offering sustainable (secondhand) and affordable (FREE) clothing options!! Since 2022 I’ve hosted three Free JEANZ4TEENZ events in Whittier as well as four Free Prom Shops ALL with the support of the community ✊.

I’m raising funds to create a Free Campus Closet at a nearby high school in order to give students an ACCESSIBLE resource to Free and Relevant clothing.

We all know how the way we look can impact the way we feel in positive and negative ways. The right outfit can propel you into participating in social settings you might otherwise shy away from OR the wrong outfit can make you self conscious-stripping away focus and even joy from your pursuits.

With access to Free clothing on their high school campus we’ll be providing teenz a resource for basic needs to be met of course but also a tool for self expression! A way for our teenz to create a truer representation of the person they are and the person they’re trying to become! There is so much power in individuality and the youth Deserves this tool. Growing up I knew where to go if I was hungry-there were many systems in place to ensure I had access to food but I knew of zero resources where I could get Free clothing that I wanted to wear and that’s what I primarily cared about.

If you dig the mission and decide to donate, $1500 will go towards revamping an existing space on the high school campus that ensures we’re offering a stylish, fun and ultimately enticing shopping experience for the students. The additional $3500 will go towards paying myself for two months work. My role includes: designing the closet lay out, ordering all necessary items, fully stocking the closet, enlisting community partners who will collect clothing throughout the school year and creating systems and program guidelines for staff and clubs that will run the Campus Closet to do so successfully. By the way I’m a former retail professional with extensive experience sooo this closet is in good hands. If there are funds leftover from this project they will be funneled into the next Campus Closet; the goal is to create a circular system amongst multiple schools.
