Hello friends and family,
It deeply pains me to write this for many reasons-yet here I am. As many of you know, my father was among many working class folks that struggled financially during the pandemic. He has had an on-going eviction case for the last year. After elected officials in Los Angeles decided to lift the moratorium that protected thousands if not millions of renters from eviction during the pandemic, my dad's case moved forward and his landlord only gave him a month to vacate, without his deposit, or any relocation assistance. My dad has gone further and further into debt during the pandemic and has little to no savings and cannot afford to pay a first months rent, a deposit, and moving costs. This will be the second time I help him through an eviction, the first time was from our family home in Lincoln Heights. As many of you might know, my dad is not a perfect person, he has made a lot of mistakes in his life, but I still believe he is deserving of dignified life and housing. The housing crisis in Los Angeles is beyond anything anyone can imagine, it has taken so many lives. Many of my friends are fighting and organizing to stay in their homes -myself included. I strongly believe housing is a human right, and fight to organize with neighbors who at one point were strangers. Housing organizing has had a special place in my life and has found me whether I liked it or not. If you can donate any small amount, it would mean the world to me. My father has little to no family support to help him weather this storm.
Lots of love - Xitlalli
