Help Marilyn and Jim pay for care after discharge
Donation protected
Hi, I'm fundraising for my parents Jim and Marilyn. They each had minor falls in January and February of this year, resulting in hospitalization and skilled nursing. Previously, they were living independently with some challenges to be expected for their age. During their time in the local skilled nursing facility, they had significant declines, due to a combination of their age and the extremely poor care they received. When they were discharged, we were told that they needed 24 hour care, which wasn't financially possible, so we tried the best we could with hired help and family rotations. Specifically, they could no longer walk, dress, or toilet unassisted, although with support following discharge we are slowly seeing improvements.
Last week after completing their necessary medical requirements, I had to move them to assited living because of the prohibitive cost of in home care. I calculated that after selling their car, if I stopped all bill payments until the house sold, that we would have just enough to pay the caregivers their previous wages and my parents' first month's rent. However there was a mistake by the bank and multiple payments were processed, leaving us just over $1500 short. Update that the bank was able to loan $1000, leaving us with around $500 to come up with, but I don't know how to change the amount we are asking for help.
My parents were teachers in local schools for their entire professional careers, and touched many kids' lives - maybe some of yours. Please consider sharing anything you can so that checks can be sent and cashed to the amazing people who made and will make a difference in my parents' lives. Thank you!
