Hi, my name is Mariana and I am a fourth-year student attending U.C.R. I was preparing to graduate in just two weeks when an uncontrollable fire completely destroyed my apartment complex at University Gardens. Many students from U.C.R., including my roommates and other residents, were impacted and suddenly found themselves without anywhere to go. The loss has been overwhelming, especially with graduation so close and the uncertainty of where to stay.
U.C.R. and the county are helping with temporary housing assistance, and there are school-affiliated donation drives this upcoming week. However, the fire left me without all of my clothes, electronics, shoes, bed, and important paperwork. I am also facing unexpected costs for temporary housing and graduation expenses. Starting over right now feels daunting, and every bit of support will make a difference as I try to rebuild and move forward.
Anything will help, and I am deeply grateful for anyone who takes the time to listen and support me during this devastating situation. Your kindness means so much as I work to recover and finish my degree despite these challenges.
