Hi, my name is Margie, and I’m fundraising for my parents, two of the hardest-working and most loving people I know- who are facing a critical moment in their lives.
They’ve built with their own hands something truly special: a small, self-sustained farm tucked away in the hills of Kentucky, home to a family of beloved animals, including:
Two sweet Highland cows
A retired racehorse and her foals
Two powerful but endangered Suffolk Punch horses
Ducks and other wild animals that roam the pastures freely
But more than animals they are family, and it would break my heart (and my parent’s) if we ever had to sell them just because of money.
WHY THEY NEED HELP
The thing about life is that money really does matter... and sometimes, no matter how hardworking you are, circumstances get complicated.
That’s exactly what’s happening to my parents. They work so hard, every single day, but what they earn just isn’t enough to cover what they need. Now they’re getting older, all of her kids live far away, and health issues make everything even harder. No matter how much they want to keep pushing forward, sometimes they simply can’t do it alone.
They’ve opened their farm to guests through a small Airbnb, sharing the beauty of slow living, nature, and old-fashioned hard work. My mom — with her background in hospitality — does it all: cleaning, repairs, animal care, fencing, farm accounting, and every small detail that makes guests feel at home.
My stepdad, a lifelong horse expert, ensures the animals are healthy, the farm is well taken care of and loves sharing his deep knowledge about their history and breeds.
But now, as they face serious health challenges — and with their life savings gone — they’re at a breaking point.
They’ve started thinking about selling everything, packing up, and moving — but I believe that would be a mistake. They love this farm, and so do I. Their dream has always been to keep this farm as a public sanctuary — a place where animals are protected, children can learn about farming and nature, and people can come to heal, disconnect, and reconnect.
That’s why I’m doing this: because I truly believe that with a little help, they can still make that dream a reality. Already is.
WHAT THEY’VE DONE
I think these pictures describe exactly who they are:
My mom keeps this farm heart alive — despite the painful arthritis she keeps everything running, from cleaning the house, to repairing the machinery of the farm, and making extra special every guest stay.
My stepdad is so passionate about nature, especially horses, that even with his asthma he is eager to go out every day and mantain the farm. He gets very excited about teaching others all his knowledge- when a guest arrives the first thing he does is to offer to show and talk about the animals. He even wrote a book on Chilean horses to share his lifetime of knowledge about horses with the world.
They truly do everything, and they do it happily. They’ve shown how much they care, and that's why I don't want them to give up now.
If you read our Airbnb reviews youll see how special they are, how much they care, and how special it is this place.
But although their spirit isn't broken, the challenges are real:
• The Airbnb only books on weekends — it’s not enough to sustain them
• Farm costs (animal care, fencing, hay, vet bills) keep rising
• Both have health issues:
– My mom has arthritis, which makes manual labor painful
– My stepdad’s asthma is worsening, they have had some ER visits
• My mom has tried to look for jobs. But they’re 30–60 minutes from the nearest town and jobs are scarce, especially for people their age. As Internet access is unreliable, it makes remote work nearly impossible
• On top of it all, I can see how my mom is starting to burn out. A few years ago she fought off cancer, and I worry that the stress could put her health at risk again if nothing changes.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT BUILDS
They have faced several hardships over the past year, making help more necessary. The area has flooded multiple times, which has demanded more work and unexpected investments. On top of that, health issues have increased their expenses, and the cost of keeping the farm running and the animals safe continues to rise.
The income they earn from the Airbnb is no longer enough to cover bills, loans, and the basic costs of maintaining the farm. If nothing changes soon, they may be forced to sell — a hardship that many farm owners, especially older ones, know all too well.
