On Friday, 9/12, my mom's fiancé Jeff died after a year-long battle with brain cancer. My mom is a nurse and has devoted her entire life to caring for others—from acute long-term care, to mental health, to geriatric facilities—she's tirelessly shown up for and advocated for people who can't for themselves.

Last year, when they received Jeff's diagnosis after he collapsed at work, Mama Cass sprang into action. She scheduled doctors, overhauled Jeff's diet, and paused her career to help Jeff survive. Jeff had surgery within days thanks to her advocacy, and throughout this journey, she has championed science-backed care.

More importantly, every moment of every day, she put Jeff's needs first. When family members demanded he take unproven and unsafe treatments like ivermectin, she stood firm in Jeff's wishes. She curated a serene and loving environment for Jeff through the successes, and ultimately their loss.

Every spare penny has gone to Jeff's care. She was able to fundraise and grant write to get him to a specialty facility in Houston as a hail mary this Spring. The stress has been unbelievable. A few months ago, she was diagnosed with afib and her blood pressure skyrocketed, all due to the stress of a 6 a.m. to midnight routine of intense care over the course of a year. We were able to help her secure her medicine, but it's been a struggle for her to exist beside his illness.

Now that Jeff is gone, my mom only has their car and their dog, Sassy. They were staying rent-free in a family house, which is being taken from her as the family blames her for Jeff's illness and blames her lack of faith for his death.

Mama Cass is in Georgia couch-surfing while she fundraises to bury Jeff. Her goal is to secure a nursing job in or around LA to get back to our family and her granddaughters. We're helping where we can, but we need community support to get her back on her feet.

Funds will be used to provide immediate food and lodging as well as covering the certifications she needs to get back to work. What's left will be used to get her to us in LA.
