Hello all, my name is Skyler MacKay, and I am working on my Eagle Scout project. This project is very near and dear to my heart. I spent most of my first 10 years of life in foster care and understand the hardships that kids face in the system. One example, imagine for a minute that you get up in the morning and go to school and during the school day, someone called a social worker comes to talk with you. During the conversation, you’re told that you aren’t going home to your parent(s) after school and will be placed in a foster care. Suddenly, you no longer have any of your toys or things at home. All you have are the clothes on your back and the stuff you brought to school that day. Sometimes, kids are removed from their homes in other ways and don’t have their school supplies or might not even be wearing much clothing.
For my project, I am doing a toy drive for kids coming into foster care. With those toy's I will attach a letter of encouragement because I know first hand how hard those first few days in foster care can be and having kind words from other kids can make a huge difference in a child’s ability to cope and process all of the hard stuff that goes along with coming into foster care.
You can help me with my project by making a donation of toys or donate here to allow me to purchase toys. I want to collect toys for kids from birth through age 18 with a focus on the older kids because they often times forgotten in the system. I am happy to answer any questions you may have regarding my project, so feel free to reach out to me anytime. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and making a donation.
