39 Michigan children have been murdered during divorce or custody battles since 2008. Domestic Violence does not end when the relationship ends, in fact, it often escalates. Abuse continues through the family court system. Protective Parents Michigan is raising funds to assist with emergency requests from parents who have to represent themselves in court due to bankruptcy or insurmountable legal debt. Many need emergency funds to pay for items needed for their children, utility bills, court transcript fees, or even gas money to travel to the parenting exchange location.

We also fund the Michigan Family Court Awareness Month campaign. Last year, 43 Michigan cities and counties recognized and proclaimed November as Family Court Awareness Month, offering a chance for family court survivors to interact with elected officials and educate them on the dangers children face in family court and how Kayden's Law would prioritze safety in custody decisions. Money raised has been used for educational materials, a billboard near Lansing targeting our legislators, and travel expenses for protective parents to speak at city and county meetings.

Abusive parents are more likely to seek sole custody of the children and are successful 70% of the time. Help us educate legislators, elected officials, and the public on the need for Kayden's Law in Michigan to prioritize child safety in all custody decisions and educate judges on domestic abuse.
