Help Denton Community Food Center Feed Families

Tax deductible
Denton Community Food Center (DCFC) is a 100% volunteer-run organization providing emergency food-assistance to support community members experiencing food insecurity. Since March 2020, DCFC has assisted over 63,000 families in Denton and 21 surrounding cities. DCFC has been supporting our local community for over 50 years now by providing groceries to those who need them. As stated on DCFC’s website, “survival is a shared burden, and when institutions fail to meet our needs, we can rely on the values that make us human—the social bonds that hold us together as we provide for each other.”

With a $10 donation, DCFC is able to provide $60-$70 worth of food from the Tarrant Area Food Bank to the community. Any donation you can make will go a long way towards feeding Denton by helping DCFC keep their facilities running and purchasing food.

In 2022, there were over 114,000 Denton County residents who lacked secure access to nutritious food, with over 34,000 of those people being children. We know that adequate nutrition is essential to both mental and physical wellbeing, and for children, the consequences of food insecurity can be lifelong. No child should have to worry about their next meal when they’re meant to focus on school and playing.

Food insecurity impacts the community through…
Health: Food insecurity is linked to diabetes and obesity
Education: Hungry children struggle to focus and achieve academically
Workforce: Food insecurity lowers productivity and job attendance
Emotional: Food insecurity causes stress, anxiety, and family strain

Hunger isn’t just a social or economic issue. It’s a moral one. No one in Denton should have to go to bed hungry.

About Us
We are a group of students from UNT wanting to support people experiencing food insecurity in our local community. About 40% of Americans are one paycheck away from poverty, and we want to help support the people who need it most.

Why we’re raising funds
Food insecurity isn’t just about hunger; it’s about parents skipping meals so their kids can eat. It’s about the elderly having to choose between groceries and medicine. It’s about people doing everything right, yet still falling short due to rising costs. Members of our group have experienced food insecurity before. Opening the pantry to see nothing there and selling belongings for a pittance to buy groceries, we know the toll this can take on a family. That’s why we joined together to raise funds for DCFC in order to lessen the burden of food insecurity on our community.
