Can you spare a donation, whether it be large or small to help my sister to make others’ lives, especially the elderly, veterans etc. a lot less lonely and to encourage them to interact with other like-minded people in a nice relaxing environment. In fact, Portsmouth City Council have designated Age UK Portsmouth as both a ‘Safe Place’ and a ‘Welcoming Warm Place,’ where individuals can gather, connect with others, support one another, or simply enjoy a quiet coffee.

My sister works for Age UK Portsmouth. She was born in Portsmouth and has lived there all her life, as has our extended family.

Now you will probably think Age UK are a large charity with plenty of money, as we see them advertise on TV etc. But Age UK Portsmouth is an independent charity, and a brand partner of Age UK National and therefore the funds that Age UK Portsmouth raise ensures we continue supporting the community in Portsmouth and surrounding areas.

The reason for starting this “Go Fund Me” page is to try to help my sister as part of ongoing efforts to raise some money to install two new 2 x seater sofas in the Café area of The Bradbury Centre, Kingston Road, Portsmouth. She has managed to get a small donation from Dunelm and Crown Paints and her, and her husband are giving up their free time at weekends to paint and decorate the Café refurbishment. She has written and emailed every sofa and furniture company you can think of and unfortunately has had no luck at all and little response.

A comfortable seating arrangement is essential in encouraging social interaction and fostering new friendships. Many of the older individuals who visit The Bradbury Centre experience isolation, loneliness or are struggling with their lack of finances, and the support given at this Centre could make a tangible difference in their lives by providing them with a cosy, comfy space that encourages community and connection.

It is widely recognized that older people are sometimes overlooked, which is especially concerning given that this is a stage of life that will eventually affect us all. While I understand that you may support many other charities, I hope you will give special consideration to this one-time request to help enhance the lives of older adults in this community.

So please, whether your donation is just a £1, £5 or more, it will be appreciated more than you know, as Age UK Portsmouth is very passionate to give the people, they help at The Bradbury Centre a newly updated refreshing, happy environment for all to use.
