We have worked hard to make our cafe, Two Stroke Coffee Co, a strong member of our neighborhood in St Johns, Oregon. After 3 years of growth we hit our full stride this summer, working at near-capacity and serving diverse groups within our community. The key to this success is our staff - an experienced crew who love their jobs, customers, and the community.
This weekend a disaster hit - the building our little cafe is in was heavily damaged by water from a faulty roof job. We have been forced to close indefinitely while construction crews assess the damage and can begin rebuilding. Insurance will cover our losses, including the wages for our awesome staff, but it won't cover lost tips. Unfortunately, the way the service economy has shaken out, tips can be up to 50% of a baristas take-home pay!
We want to retain our staff, and make sure they don't go without, until we are open again. All money raised will go to matching the tips they would normally own while we are open. Any additional funds will go towards the tenants of the apartments that share our building, many of whom lost everything they had.
