Kenya Medical/Sports Mission Trip!

Donation protected
Dear Readers,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.  I am asking for your help to send my fiance, Dean, and I on a 14-day Medical Mission trip to Kenya, leaving March 19th returning April 1st.  We will be visiting the Rift Valley to serve the people of Nandi County, Kenya

This is Dr. Oskenholt and his teams second trip to Nandi County.   Last year the team provided medical care to over 2,000 patients, treating a range of illnesses and nutrient deficiencies, including: typhoid fever, malaria, meningococcal meningitis, TB, brucellosis, hookworm, roundworm, pinworm, giardia, lymphatic filariasis, goiter, iron deficiency anemia, pellagra, and Vitamin A deficiency.  I was surprised to learn that Vitamin A,  something most people get enough of simply through diet, can cause blindness in those who are deficient in it. We plan to each bring 50lbs of medical supplies in our carry-on to serve the community.

This year's mission trip is especially exciting as it will include a 3-day sports camp delivered by the coaches of University of Oregon.  I am looking forward to utilizing my years of experience and knowledge from being a professional track athlete to teach the children speed improvement and conditioning drills.  The camp will finish with a festival featuring a soccer tournament and track meet for the children.  The team has bought tropies and medals.  It will be a special experience for us all!

We will be providing sports gear, including shoes, soccer shorts, socks, sports camp t-shirts, etc.  The team has also started a sewing school and has been fundraising for sewing machines.  The school has started with ten students and they will receive their own sewing machine upon graduation.  Any donations to either of these causes would be greatly appreciated.  The sewing machines are $150 each.

The final part of the trip will be a 3-day safari in Masai Mara.  We will see Maasai warriors and have the opportunity to view a variety of animals, including: the black maned lion, cheetah, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, leopard, grants gazelle, hyena, and maybe a rhino!

This will be an incredible experience, a life changing milestone for us.  We would appreciate any donations to help us complete this mission.  You will truly be helping us give back and I will include everyone on our trip through daily diaries, photos and videos.  Join us on this journey!

Thank you!
