Hi, my name is Aquila, and this story is about my 91-year-old grandmother, Shirley, or Madea is what my family calls her. My grandmother lives in Sacramento in a senior assisted living facility. She has lived there for a few years. My dad manages the lion's share of my grandma's support even though he lives in Oakland and works 6 days a week. My dad works hard to provide for and support my grandmother. My grandmother often complains of feeling lonely because we cannot visit her as much as we would like to because she lives in Sacramento, and my dad and I live in Oakland and Redwood City, respectively. Although she has been unhappy at this facility due to understaffing, she has coped well with being there. However, my grandmother's needs have recently become too significant for this facility to manage adequately on her current lease. The facility has increased my grandmother's rent by $700 to accommodate her needs. However, we believe that my grandmother would be happier in a facility closer to us so that she could feel less lonely.
The purpose of this page is to raise money so that we can afford to move my grandmother to a nursing facility that will fully support her needs in or near Oakland so that we can visit her more often. My dream for my grandma is to experience some peace at the end of her life.
We appreciate any level of contribution and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for participating in this experience with us. Whether it's just reading the story or contributing what you can, we thank you.
Warm regards,
Aquila, Roland (my dad), and family
