Hi, my name is Luz. I’m a single mom of two beautiful little girls—and we are survivors.

In the summer of 2021, I made the hardest decision of my life: I left a toxic and abusive relationship to protect my daughters and myself. We had endured emotional abuse, manipulation, and trauma in a home where alcoholism and denial were the norm. When the abuse escalated, I knew we were no longer safe. With the help of a few trusted friends and family, we escaped and started our lives over.

-Rebuilding from Zero

Since leaving, I’ve worked tirelessly to rebuild our lives. We now live in a small, safe home filled with love, patience, and healing. I’ve been in therapy, built a support system, and created a nurturing environment for my girls and our pets.

My youngest daughter, Eva Luna, was diagnosed with Level 2 autism. She’s incredibly smart and resilient. Thanks to her amazing teachers and therapists, she’s made incredible progress and is no longer entirely non-verbal. But her care requires ongoing therapy, medical support, and specialized education—all of which I’ve been managing on my own.

-The Legal Battle

Despite working two jobs and doing everything I can to stay afloat, the financial strain of legal fees, medical bills, and basic living expenses has become overwhelming.

I’ve invested over $7,000 in attorney and court costs to establish custody, parenting time, and child support. While custody and parenting time has been agreed upon, my ex is now refusing to accept the state’s child support calculations and medical responsibilities—forcing me into a court trial.

I’m at risk of facing this trial alone, without legal representation, against the person who caused so much harm.
