Hello my name is Jennifer and I am writing to you today to ask for your support for my aunt Lupita who is battling Cushing's Syndrome.
After the birth of her first child, Lia, in 2023, my aunt began experiencing severe symptoms of this hormonal disorder, which is caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of the hormone cortisol.
The symptoms have profoundly impacted her, leading to significant weight gain, muscle weakness, thinning skin, bruising, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, and severe depression. Her health has declined immensely since 2023, with long hospital stays and no clear answers. She has been bedridden for an extended period, resulting in reduced function in her arms and legs, compounded by severe ulcers on her legs. Despite spending a considerable amount on blood work and hospital admissions in Mexico, we have not received adequate care or effective treatments from the public medical system.
The physical pain from her lesions has been immense, and she has also been suffering from profound nausea due to anxiety and trauma. For the past few months, she has been surviving on smoothies or no food at all, and doctors have informed us that her recovery is hindered by malnutrition.
We found a private plastic surgeon who performed urgent surgery on October 23rd to prevent the lesions from becoming deadly. Now, she requires expensive follow-up treatments for wound healing, costing $1000 USD per treatment, with two treatments needed per week. This amounts to approximately $8000 USD per month, not including essential medications. Our immediate priority is to heal these wounds, but we also urgently need to consult with other specialists, such as an endocrinologist, to accurately diagnose the specific type of Cushing's Syndrome she has.
All donations will go directly toward her treatments and medications in Mexico. I have included pictures illustrating the impact of this disease. Our family is desperately trying to get her the care she needs so she can regain her health. We are still managing debt from previous hospital visits, and in Mexico, necessary medical care requires upfront payment.
Any donation, no matter the size, would be deeply appreciated.
Thank You
